Save Your Skin and Cash

None of us can afford to look older than our age.  That goes double for performers whose industry is obsessed with youth.  So, if you're visiting tanning salons, the cash and youth spent means every visit is expensive.

Don't do it!  You may be cheating yourself out of future jobs, and shortening the life of your career.  If you land a gig that needs you to look sunkissed, get it sprayed on, and make the company pay for it.  And, yes, I worked for a company that spent loads spraying their performers; it does happen.

It's recommended you wear sunscreen if you get more than 20 min of sun exposure, which, frankly, you get just on the morning commute, so wear sunscreen DAILY.  That includes winter and cloudy days.  Don't forget your neck, chest, and hands.  When buying sunscreen, look for these factors:

  • Water/sweat resistant - everyone sweats in the summer
  • UVA protection:  Helioplex, Ecamsule, Mexoryl SX, Parsol 1789, Avobenzone, Oxybenzone - they all work
  • High SPF (UVB protection) - personally, I use 30 or higher

For the love of cheap, go pale!
